Is the World Getting Better or is Knowledge Increasing ?

I get tired of hearing how “the world is getting better” and therefore the kingdom of God is advancing.

What an empty cry.

In reality – it is the scoffer’s cry.

What preacher – who uses the Bible as his source- would ever base the advancement of the kingdom upon anything other than the state of the soul of man and the physical return of Jesus Christ ?

Only a scoffer trying to cast shadows on the return of the Lord in judgement upon the kingdoms of this earth.

Only a scoffer trying to negate the clear commands to watch, to be awake, and be prepared for His return.

Only a scoffer seduced by pride attempting to negate the call for glory through suffering, and the command to separate and sanctify ourselves from this world and its forces.

Has the world gotten better ? Yes – in many ways.

In fact, the prophet Daniel explained what is happening today in Daniel 12:1-4

“ And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame andeverlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”

Before the time of the resurrection – knowledge will increase.

That is happening today – as never before.

Hospitals are better today than in 1895.
Communication is better today than in 1925. Or 1965.
Transportation has improved since the horse and buggy.
Knowledge has increased.

Has the heart of man improved ?
Lawlessness is still lawlessness.
The mystery of iniquity is still at work.

Has Christianity grown ? No. The world is approximately 33% Christian like it was in 1910.
The population has grown…but the percentage of “Christians” in the world is still about the same.
Different groups are coming to Christ in greater measure. ..yes. But at the same time- once “Christian” populations/cities/countries are leaving “Christianity”.
Also – the message has changed. There are many today who claim to be “Christian” but have never encountered the Christ of the cross.
I believe that in the 33% of the world that claims to be “Christian” … only 1/3rd of them are born from above. Just my opinion.

Ok. I can hear the cries of faithless, hopeless, pessimist, and whatever.
I can feel the marginalization.
He’s an escapist. A futurist. A Christian with no vision. Blah…blah.
Here is the reality.

Saying “the world is getting better” therefore the kingdom of God is advancing is like…

telling a drowning man not to worry because (due to today’s advanced water filtration) his lungs are being filled with the purest water known to man. The water today just keeps getting better.

telling a death row inmate that his last meal is low carb, low fat, and low calorie. He wont gain a pound. Life in prison just gets better and better.

because over $425,000,000 is spent on Bibles yearly – the love of money is no longer the root of all evil. Covetousness just keeps getting better and better.
This scoffer’s cry is simply …

A subjective opinion, with no eternal significance, based upon selective statistics for the purpose of “legitimizing” a religious, eschatological, philosophy.

It is eschatological clickbait.
Here is the real truth.

2 Peter 3

1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they werefrom the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 ¶ But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 ¶ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of personsought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 ¶ Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 ¶ Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
